Women, what do you want to do with your time? What do you want to be? What are your career goals?
The world has so many views on the role of women and the potential we have to do so much good in this world. And you know what? It's true. Women have such a presence and strong influence on those around them. I don't want to sound sexist but ... I think that women could rule the world without men. ;) Good thing I love men though, right?
Seriously though, growing up I used to be leaning towards being a major feminist, but I have realized that being a mother is a great, divine role that is actually a full-time job. As my dreams and goals turned from being a single woman living in a big city to someone who wants to support a man and family. I know that most of today's problems are rooted from the family unit being under attack. I know that through strengthening families, we can change the world. (I could expound on this more, but it's late and I'm getting a little tired.)
I wanted to share something I thought of as I reflected back on the thoughts I had on women I had looked up to who I thought would have amazing careers and then I heard that they got married and settled for less in their goals. As I have matured and gained a deeper understanding, I have learned that they were not settling for less, they were exercising a very powerful thing: sacrifice. They were sacrificing their goals for a higher cause - something beyond themselves and focused on others: a family.
Perspective.
I have always wanted to do everything. Be a doctor, lawyer, President of the United States, chef, singer/actor, genetic researcher, etc, etc. The list could go on forever. I realized that I can do all of these things. How? Let me show you ....
When I grow up, I want to be a doctor: I will be a professional at treating scraped knees and tummy aches.
When I grow up, I want to be a chef: My restaurant will be open 24/7 and will serve food from all over the world.
When I grow up, I want to be an architect: Building forts from blankets, wood, ice, and all other materials.
When I grow up, I want to be a talk show host: Welcome home! You're the star of the show. Tell me about your life and what's new!
When I grow up, I want to be ...
When I grow up, I want to do all of these things, and I can. I'm going to be a mom.
Tell your mom you love her.
